What is Wanderland?
A dating app built for actually meeting people. Short dates, low stakes, and a map of people near you who are up for the same kind of date.
How does it work?
Each Date Map shows people nearby who are up for the same kind of date: a night out, food, the cinema and more. See someone you like? Ask them to a quick icebreaker game.
If you both hit it off, you join each other’s Island, which holds up to ten connections. From there you can chat, and use Quick meets to agree a time and a place to meet.
What is the icebreaker game?
You both get the same made up situation, like being stuck in a cave overnight, and each of you picks three things you would do, without seeing the other’s picks. Then you see both sets of answers, with the ones you share picked out.
Where is Wanderland available?
We’re opening in London and Manchester first. The app is out now on Android, and coming soon to iPhone. If you live somewhere else you can still sign up, and we’ll let you know when your city opens.
Why is the map locked?
Each city’s maps open once enough people have joined there, so there’s somebody to meet when you arrive. The map shows how many it needs. Until then the rest of the app works, and inviting friends opens it sooner.
How old do you have to be?
18 or over. Your date of birth is checked when you sign up, and it can’t be changed afterwards.
How do I sign in?
There’s no password. Sign in with your email address and the code we email you, or with Apple or Google.
Is Wanderland free?
Yes. A Premium version will come later, and the first people to join in each city get it free for life, as founding members.
Does Wanderland have ads?
No. And nothing about you is shared for advertising.
Will Wanderland sell my data?
No. Nothing is sold. Our privacy policy says exactly what we keep, who else sees it, and how to have it deleted.
Can other people see exactly where I am?
No. Your location is rounded to about a kilometre before it leaves your phone, and other people see you drawn half a kilometre to a kilometre away from that, in a different spot each day.
Who can see my photos?
Only the people the app would show you to: people near you on the maps, people you’ve been on a date with, and anyone you ask out. Nobody you’ve blocked can see them.
How do I report or block someone?
In your chat with them, tap ⋮ at the top and choose Report or block. To report one message, press and hold it. An Island Note has its own report button. Blocking is immediate, and they aren’t told.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, go to Profile and choose Delete my account. It happens straight away and can’t be undone. If you can’t open the app, here’s how to ask us.
Who runs Wanderland?
Wanderland is run by James Clayson, in London.
Can I get paid to help?
If you’re a student at Manchester Uni or Manchester Met, yes: we pay £1 for everyone who signs up with your code. Find out more.
